Crag features

Routes up to 70ft. Some may be vegetated but most are fine. Not much in the E1+ grades.

There is also a good and mainly easy bouldering circuit on solid rock in the small quarry, most of which have top outs. And some harder tests can be found on the Red Wall and the River blocks.

Approach notes

Take the A666 North from Bolton, once you've left the village of Egerton continue on the A666 for a mile or so, past a small forest on the left and then take the first right at the junction of the B6391 and the A666. There is a layby for six or so cars just near the junction on the B6391. There is also space for three or so cars on the West side of the A666 a few metres north of the junction. This second parking space is almost directly opposite the footpath to the crag, which is signposted to Edgworth. This is a gravel path through the trees. Stay to the left and follow it around the hill. After a few minutes you get to the first Small quarry on your left.Follow for another 2 mins and the Red wall will be on your left. For Cadshaw River Boulders continue to take the track down the hill until you see the Cadshaw Castle Rock outcrop on your left. Turn down the track towards castle rocks but instead of crossing the river take the path left and follow the river up until you reach the River boulders, aboout 5 mins from red wall.

The small quarry is great for a few hours of low grade climbing, in good condition now!

Had a good evening there bone dry, did Orangutan (care needed at the top) and VS next to it, both good routes Also Adam lead Gorilla hard for E1 but very good first pitch with a bold top pitch that I back off. Definitely a crag worth leading shame it dose'nt get more attention

Main quarry well overgrown
LuckyLucy - 29/Jun/11
Majority of Salamander has had an extensive cleaning. The initial wall under the overhang needs a bit of brushing but apart from that its ready to be climed again. Just needs a bit more traffic to keep it in good nick.

The area around orangutan and green slab have been given a good cleaning. The top has been cleaned right back making toping out and belaying a lot easier. There are some really good routes here and a more thorough clean is planned to bring it back to its former glory.

Found the quarry well overgrown and no signs that anyone has climbed there since the guidebook was written.Take gardening eqipment if you intend to climb!
