Crag features

Aggenstein is a triangular shield of rock that can be seen dominating the skyline from the Bad Kissinger Hutte carpark. The routes range from 2+ to 5+, and are generally 180-200m long. The rock is fairly sold but is typically limestone and has the odd loose bit. The main belays are well bolted on all routes and the intermediate bolts sportingly placed but there are bolts are where you need them.

Approach notes

Approach from the South - Park at the Bad Kissinger Hutte carpark just outside Gran (Crag can been seen high up on the ridge as you look North) and follow the way-marked route (Bad Kissinger Hutte, Aggenstein) to the Hut (approx 1hr 10mins).

From the hut initally follow the way-marked path to Aggenstein summit, and after a short while turn west (just as the zig-zags start) and follow the well-worn climbers path to the base of the crag. The obvious arête that you first come to is Sudostgrat (2+). To descend either abseil from the abseil station in the col (east side) between the two peaks (2 x 50m ropes required) or scramble (2) to the true summit and walk off down the tourist path.

The crag can also be approached from the North via the Breitenbergbahn or the Hochalp-Sesselbahn.
