Ticknall Lime Yards

Climbs 3 – Rocktype Limestone – Altitude 100m a.s.l – Faces all

Crag features
Limestone quarrying on this site was first documented on the 14th October 1462, evidence of bouldering is limited to a finishing hold painted with two red dots and the legend "FIN".

There is a scarey cave/ partially collapsed mine which somone bolder than me is welcome to develop into Derbyshire's first f9. The Lime Yards are now an SSSI and can be walked on a number of paths which thread around the now wooded site.

Owned by the National Trust.

Access notes
You can park on the main road or in the church car park. It's a bit of a maze really, there are several bouldering areas and a nice new NT path running through the middle. Part of the fun is finding the climbs, leave a message if you want better information.

The big cave is probably unstable, let alone wet. I reckon the walls to the left and right are climbable especially after a bit of a brush up- volunteers welcome. The "Fin" wall is right on the other side, past the little cave in a newly cleared quarry area bordering houses.

found the big cave after another walk round the area with the dogs. cave is quite impressive but as you say its flooded, would say it never dries out lookin at water table level and water can be heard dripping into it continuiously. yet to find the "FIN" wall yet? any pointers?

I've walked right over the big cave a couple of times without seeing it. It lies to the left of a track that runs through the eastside of the quarries and serves a "water treatment" works on the SE border. The big cave is pretty much under this track, next to a lake in the far SE corner. It's partially flooded. I'll put a topo up when I get time. I know that I'm not the first person to climb here, so if anybody knows any existing routes please let me know and I'll put them on here.
