Scharnitz

Climbs 42 – Rocktype Limestone – Altitude 971m a.s.l – Faces S

Crag features
Off main road of 177, coming from Scharnitz follow signs for sports platz (on the right). Parking by football pitch.

Crag is split East - West.

East side routes are slightly more advanced with potential to multipitch

West side routes start at Bert & Ernie graded 3+ and work up to 6+ as you come back towards the east side.

A lot of loose rock, with a large amount of runoff shingle on approach

Routes are not overly polished however Stutzpfeiler poses a difficult polished second move to get over a featureless slab to unlock the climb. Base of crag is roughly 2m wide so can be quite tight for space on a sunny day however the standard of climbing on the western side is ideal for learners and teaching experienced climbers to get on the lead and systems

Access notes
Good parking at football pitches 30m track. Single track upto crag, steep but no more than 2min walk in. Road is heavily used by mountain bikers so care should be taken crossing. A lot of loose rock around the crag and on approach helmets are advised especially with beginner groups

Guidebooks
Allgau Rock (2008), Karwendel (2007)
