Lovely couple of boulders in a stunning location, 500m from the Strines road along the Dukes Road bridleway.
I always wondered why there were two Hurkling Stones, this one and the one on Derwent Edge. Today I saw on an OS map from 1855 that these rocks were once called the Herculean Stones. If you say Herculean in a Yorkshire accent it sounds like Hurkling so it makes sense how both these places ended up with the same name eventually.
