Hardcastle Crags

Climbs 40 – Rocktype Gritstone – Altitude 244m a.s.l – Faces ?

Crag features
Bouldering on mostly solid natural gritstone in the idyllic setting of Hardcastle crags above Hebden Bridge. Lots of potential for new problems with most of the current bouldering around the low to mid 6s. Developed in November and December 2013 by Adam Hughes and Ed Bailey.

Access notes
Park in the National Trust car park at Hardcastle crags.

Walk out of the top of the car park into the woods and turn right after approximately 50m following a path between the two fields. Follow the path to a junction in the woods and continue up the hill along the old stone path and the first boulders become visible after about 200m. The rest of the boulders are scattered above and below the path on either side.

Volunteer to moderate Hardcastle Crags
We rely on volunteers to moderate their local crags. You would check updates and approve climbs added to the database. It's a very easy job, and all you need is a guidebook and an hour or two each month. [ read more ]

Would benefit from some traffic to de-moss/lichen the place.

on their way, just getting some topos sorted then I'll release a mini guide for this circuit before the guide for the area is completed.

Any pics of the boulders?

SD 98331 29372 for these boulders. I'm working my way through the area at the moment doing a bit of a development, I'm currently working on a mini guide for the whole area. Hopefully I'll be able to organise a bit of a crag clean up and routing session, now we've done everything we fancy on the Foul Scout Wood side. With respect to the other side though they're all very green and an effort to get to. I've cleaned a few lines ready for the next spell of dry weather. You're better trekking in from Pecket Well rather than walking in from Hardcastle car parks.

Do you have an OS map ref? There are a few craglets hidden amongst the trees above Middle Dean Woods (http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=399144&Y=429387&A=Y&Z=115&ax=399102&ay=429547).
