Buoux Vaucluse, FRANCE
Climbs 500 – Rocktype Limestone – Altitude ? – Faces S
Crag features
Provence, France. In the Vaucluse department, just south of Apt in the Luberon hills. Rock type is Mollass Limstone - essentially a sandstone with a limestone coating. As with most of the cliffs in the area, was used as a dwelling by the ancients.
Famous as a hard sport climbing venue in the early-mid 1980s, thus many over the routes have an 'old school' feel. Vertical walls and techincal pockets and crimping are the order of the day here, rather than sustained overhanging jug-fests. Also, beware the Buoux slab, forming the crux at the top of many routes you think are in the bag!

Access notes
Free car-parking is available in well signed bays. Car crime can be a problem so best to leave car completely empty with shelf removed (consequently, not an ideal airport day venue).
Bivis at the crag are a definate no-no, and try to go to the loo before you arrive. Venture into the woods beneath the crag at your peril!
Thanks to successful negotiations and improved behaviour of climbers, access to Face Ouest has been granted, and the routes here re-equipped. Long may it remain open.
