The popular summer beauty spot waterfall on the Caerfanell at Blaen-Y-Glyn Isaf gives approximately 15m of grade II/III water ice when deeply frozen in sustained extremely cold winters. Very rarely formed. Could be combined with approaches to Torpantau and also river ice scrambling or Nant Bwrefwr side stream. There can be fast moving water and ice covering deep river pools on the lower river below the wooden bridge. Should be inspected.
Approach via A40 to Talybont, Abercynafon and on to Blaen-Y-Glyn lower car park or via Merthyr and Torpantau to upper or lower Blaen- Y-Glyn car parks. The Fall is 600m north of the lower Blaen-Y-Glyn car park. Take a track north from the car park for 500m and after a side stream bridge turn right and descend to the Caerfanell and a wooden bridge crossing point. Upstream is the fall visible from here.
