Crag features

Mostly single pitch but with a number of quality multi pitch routes. And mostly bolted but with several trad routes, mainly (but not exclusively) the lower grade multi pitch routes.

GRADES WARNING. The grades use a local system, with the local grades being around 2 letter grades lower than the French grade - so for 7a, read 7c! Currenly, the grades on UKC contain a mix of the two systems (so don't trust the grades!).. this is being addressed by the crag volunteers bit by bit.

The exact conversion to French grades is as follows:
(Cahorros -> French)
IV -> IV
IV+ -> IV+ - V
V -> V+ - 6a
V+ -> 6a+
6a -> 6b
6a+ -> 6b+
6b -> 6c - 6c+
6b+ -> 7a
6c -> 7a+
6c+ -> 7b
7a -> 7b+ - 7c
7a+ -> 7c - 7c+
7b -> 8a
7b+ -> 8a+
7c -> 8a+ - 8b
7c+ -> 8b
8a -> 8b+
8a+ -> 8c

Approach notes

The nearest town to Los Cahorros is Monachil (about 500m from the start of the trail head).

Take the GR-3202 from Granada towards Monachil. Drive through the town and up a hill until you pass Restaurante el Puntarron on your right. In 100 meters there's a free car park on the right. Follow the dirt track at the bottom of this car back for about 500m (past a couple of bars, one of which rents climbing equipment) to the first bridge.

It's also possible to arrive using bus 181 from Granada. Careful on the return as later in the day the bus only goes as far Barrio Monachil (2km walk from Monachil).

Access Advice

Sector Diabolico is the most famous sector in Cahorros for good reason, it has incredible routes at all grades. Unfortunately, most of the routes begin from the walkway that is used by walkers. In order to avoid any access issues, most local climbers do not climb in this sector on weekends (since that is when the walkway is busiest). Instead, the sector is frequented midweek in the morning (and after around 18pm).

This is not an official rule, but very strongly encouraged by local climbers.
