The Rakes, Hutton Roof Crags © Lankyman

Crag features

Very well-situationed short routes on superb rock (although sometimes fairly polished). A great place for a first climb and understandably popular with groups, although there is plenty of routes for everyone.

Approach notes

If there is a problem parking in the village, parking is encouraged in the community centre, just after the church on the left driving towards the crab. A voluntary fee is asked for. This may prevent issues with folk who live in the village.

Birds nesting (Great tit) behind the flake of Ronson Kirkby. Please avoid for now.

Visited again after a long break and frankly this crag is rubbish. Yes itā€™s a nice place, yes the rock is solid, but the better routes are polished, and mostly one-move wonders, and rarely have more than 5m of actual climbing. There are better places.

A great crag if you've got kids and non-climbers. It's not very high, and there are lots of lower grade climbs. The foot of the crag is in a valley, and the opposite side of the valley is basically a grassy bank, so it's sheltered.

Hidden gem, well worth a look.

Excellent crag, on perfect rock, many short solos and slightly longer routes, and some bouldering.
