Approach notes

Twenty minute walk from parking in laybys just south of the Leathes Head Hotel.

I imagine this is a great crag during the warmer months, however it seeps rather a lot at this time of year and we were unable to complete troutdale pinnacle due to this.

Large block fell off during an ascent of Gleaned Groove today, uprooting trees and leaving a path of destruction, other climbs may be affected

Troutdale Pinnacle ? Possibly my one enduring love (wife and daughters excepted). First climbed this crag in 1961. In the following decade must have climbed it fifty or more times, solo and with a string. Not too difficult - but what a delight in its variety of situations - and that 'Thank God' hold - just where most needed. A fabulous piece of climbing and recommended to everyone. Put it top of your wish list. It's what 'real' rockclimbing was meant to be.

get to it mid week or an early start, or on a week climb prepare to queue for tdp. the mortician is a smashing route with a very techy start to the second pitch. on the third pitch do the finger traverse, well worth the effort and easyer than it looks.

"We climbed Troutdale Pinnacle on a lovely sunny day and seemed to be the only people there" theres seems to be a constant stream of people on tdp and never anyone on any of the other three star routes. The Mortician is v.good.

We climbed Troutdale Pinnacle on a lovely sunny day and seemed to be the only people there - much quieter than Shepherds Crag. It's a really enjoyable climb with stunning views and an easy walk in.
