Mythical quarries and a rarely climbed Hangingstone all hidden in the woods. (more info in Yorkshire Grit vol.2)
Approach from Thornhill Drive:
Park on Thornhill Drive (entrance by the parish church), and walk down the obvious path into the woods, follow the path left where it forks and keep on as it curves round. The quarries are on the right-hand side of the path and the tops are lined by wooden fences. The box quarry is first seen when approaching from the main path and can be accessed on the south side. The larger main quarry is just behind the box quarry, is north facing, and can be accessed but a descent gully or by walking around and down.
The Hangingstone is further along west from the top of the main quarry, on the north side of Clara Drive. Please be discreet and respectful here as is directly behind the residents' gardens.
Discretion required at the Hangingstone. The woods are a popular place to walk/explore but the boulder is very close to local residences so not suitable for large groups etc.
