Gesäuse has been the traditional realm of Viennese and Styrian climbers since the late 19th century. In Haindlkar, there are many alpine style showpieces such as the Pfannl-Maischberger, Ödsteinkante, Rosskuppenkante and Dachl classic North Face. Development continues to this day and many classics have been sensibly bolted but still retain a big mountain feel aided by alpine accesses and long descents.
Shorter offerings (200-300m) are availlable on Kalbling to the west and Buchstein to the North, providing good choices in shoulder season.
