Approach notes

All of these venues require a low tide, most of them, a very low tide.

For Aberaeron, park at the public car parks and walk along the beach. You can keep going south all the way to Gilfach but there is a river to cross.

If approaching from Gilfach, pick one of a few parking spots and walk in. Each one has room only for a few cars. Aberaeron has a layby where you can join the coast path. The villages all have small laybys or places to pull over. Cae Bach has a large sweeping turn just before the holiday park where people park but there is a single yellow line.

At low tide, walk in along the beach from Cae Bach. This is the best way but you will need a very low tide to get around the headlands. Under 0.9m to get around the first, and under 0.8 to get from the waterfall bay to the long beach.

From Gilfach, walk in and down the beach road between the mud cliffs and walk around the headland. There are a few options which involve getting wet, traversing, or climbing friable shale.

You can climb down either side of the waterfall. The northern side is probably most appealing but is a bit loose at the top and a long way down. You can hang a rope off the bridge and go down to the left of the water.

If the tide comes in, you're in trouble. Either wade around the south end to waterfall bay and exit up the steep shale on the left or wade around the next bit to Cae Bach. Or, head north and get to Gilfach. The safest place to wait out the tide is probably to the south where there is a slope and a small promontory you might find some safety on.

Asd of January, the seagulls are nesting on the area where the sea-stacks are.
