Suilven from the south west approach © aneate

Crag features

'Iconic' doesn't do this hill justice. A spectacular island-like peak forming a long ridge with several tops. The traverse of the main peaks from the central bealach is the classic walk, with some scrambling and lots of exposure. The crux is gaining the main eastern top, Meall Meadhonach - bear in mind that for most people the way off is to reverse this short but steep scramble. (Continuing to the smaller far east top Meall Beag is less often done: recommended for a full traverse of the hill, and also involves more scrambling)

Approach notes

There are a few different approaches to Suilven, all of them quite long. The Lochinver side approach is the easiest. Also shortest for the climbs on the north-west side of the mountain (all rarely climbed).
