Approaching 'Happy Birthday' 1st pitch © DaveAnderson
Water ice falls, multi-pitch - the narrow drive up from back of Le Bourg D'Oissan is amazing, but snow chains are advisable!

Narrow, precarious, zig-zag drive up from back of Le Bourg D'Oissan is amazing, but snow chains advisable - try not to drive slightly to one side in the snowy areas as you're then prone to sinking into snow ditches (like we did + had to be pulled out by some amicable French locals)! Leave car in village Villard-Notre-Dame or just before village (for climbs best accessed from here e.g. 'Cascade De Saint Claude' (II, 5+. 100M), 'Sans Issue' (I 5. 30M) and Le Fournet (II, 4. 250M)) - not 'Happy Birthday' which is accessed by walking West from the village down into a shallow ravine before heading roughly south-west, almost the direction you've come, gradually gaining height, there should be some sign of a track in the snow, eventually veering west up through some trees - you'll see the ice fall - there's a little cave to the left, which is good for belaying.
