First Ascent of Wonderland (9b) for Adam Ondra

Adam Ondra has reported the first ascent of a 9b he has named Wonderland in Arco, Italy. Although he has given it 9b, he says it's a 'hard' one and argues it may warrant 9b/+.

The route is at the Terra Promessa (Promised Land) crag and was first bolted by Alfredo Weber (52-year-old 9a climber). Ondra added a few more bolts back in November 2021 through an 'alternative natural start.' He then spent time working the moves before an illness and wet weather curtailed his climbing.

He returned to the route this month and took advantage of dry, windy conditions to get the route finished. On the grade, Ondra wrote:

'I believe it could be the hardest route in Arco at the moment. The route fits my style, it is quite morphological (harder if you are short), but [could it] break the barrier into the 9b+ realm? I honestly do not know. It is also really difficult for me to tell what could be compared with La Dura Dura, Change or Perfecto Mundo.

'All I know is that it felt a little bit harder than Erebor that I did a few months ago.'

Ondra has spent a significant amount of time in Arco in recent months. He repeated Stefano Ghisolfi's Erebor (9b) in November and made the first ascent of Bomba (9b) earlier this month.
