Janja Garnbret Climbs Bügeleisen (Font 8B+)Newsflash

Olympic champion Janja Garnbret has made the first female ascent of Klem Loskot's Bügeleisen (f8B+) in Maltatal, Austria. Whilst widely considered the greatest female competitor of all time, Janja has spent very little time on rock and often focuses on sport climbing.

Bügeleisen was first climbed by Loskot in 2001, saw an ascent from Markus Bock a year later and then waited until 2013 for the next from Nalle Hukkataival. Hukkataival went on to climb the sit start in 2014, giving it a grade of Font 8C. The stand start has now had several repeats but Janja is the first woman to have climbed the problem.

Along with her Olympic success in 2021, she has won back to back World Championship golds, eight overall World Cup titles, a clean sweep of the 2019 Boulder season - the only person to ever do so - and a triple World Championship win in the same year. 

In terms of rock climbing, she has redpointed two 9as, Selecció Natural Extension (9a) and La Fabela Pa La Enmienda (9a), as well as onsighting two 8cs, Fish Eye (8c) and American Hustle (8c). We're certain most of the climbing world wants to see what she can achieve if she focuses on rock climbing for a sustained period of time...
