UKC Essay) to relaunch Alpinist Magazine.
They also announced that Issue 26 was scheduled to be distributed yesterday, the 15th of April.
UKClimbing.com spoke to Jon Howard, the publisher, this morning:
"Alpinist twenty six began shipping from the printer yesterday." he said. The new team are bang on schedule.
Founded by Christian Beckwith and Marc Ewing and operated in Jackson, Wyoming, until the autumn of last year, Alpinist built a strong following, but unfortunately failed to make ends meet. Perhaps Kennedy can bring his magic formula to the publication (he successfully ran Climbing Magazine from 1974 to 1998, albeit in a much more print media friendly era).
In a recent press release, Kennedy stated:
"My aim is to continue to explore the heart and soul of the climbing experience, building on the incredible foundation Alpinist has developed over the last six years.”
Kennedy served as an advisor to Alpinist since its inception in 2002. In over 35 years of climbing he has ventured far and wide, from pioneering Colorado ice climbs to lightweight alpine climbs in Alaska and the Himalaya, and he remains an active rock climber and backcountry skier today. But can he bring Alpinist back from the dead?
Many climbers and Alpinist subscribers have high hopes for issue 26 and can only keep their fingers crossed that Height of Land Publications have struck a balance between quality editorial and the harsh reality of making money.
Good luck Alpinist!
