The tunnel is due to open to all trucks, except those carrying hazardous cargo, tomorrow.
Around 1,000 demonstrators blocked the French entrance on May 14 in protest at the resumption of heavy freight traffic, banned since a fatal fire in 1999.
Many climbers based in the Chamonix valley are expected to join other local inhabitants in the protest. The riot police (CRS) who have been staying in the Novotel are likely to be out in force.
