GB Bouldering Team 2012 Announced

The GB Bouldering Team is pleased to announce that the Team members for the 2012 competition season will comprise of:

The new Team met for their first Team training session at the Sports and Exercise Department of Teeside University on the 8th October where they completed a series of fitness tests. The day was organised by the Team's Sports Scientist Dominic White MSc who works at the University. Most of the tests were maximal in nature and included the following:

  • Maximal Finger Strength (Dominant Hand Only)
  • Finger Endurance at 80% of Maximal Capacity (Dominant Hand Only)
  • Upper Body Anaerobic Capacity
  • Functional Movement Screening
  • One Arm Pull Up Maximal Strength (Dominant Arm)
  • One Arm Pull Up Endurance at 80% of Maximal Capacity (Dominant Arm)
  • Vertical Jump Performance
  • Skinfold Measurements
  • Maximal Isometric 'Lock Off' Strength Test
  • Abdominal Curl Endurance Test
  • Aerobic Capacity Test

What was the purpose of the strength tests? To see where their weaknesses are? Because the university is using the data for some kind of study?

Would be really interesting to get hold of the results of the tests. Anyone know how? I posted something a while back asking for similar info from top climbers (just for personal interest)

To measure gains over time perhaps?! Almost every other sport does such testing

In the article the most outstanding feature for me was the management team is nearly 50% of the actual climbers. Ok some roles are covered by team members but it does seem very top heavy!

Looks like they are intending on bumping-off the two in the front of the image. I never realised how cut-throat bouldering had become.
