Duty Manager (Operations) at The Project Climbing Centre Jobs

A little bit about us...

Our primary aim is to create a space in which our community can thrive, grow, and progress. We are a forward-looking and constantly developing company, and we're looking for a new teammate to help us grow into an even bigger and better version of what we already are.

We're nothing without our incredible teammates, who work incredibly hard to make our centre a warm and welcoming environment for climbers (and yogis and freerunners and aerialists and martial artists) to spend their valuable free time in. It's now time for us to take the next step in giving back to our team, with new roles and rotas giving them more free time, more regular shift patterns, and the chance to develop in their areas of interest and expertise.

About the role...

As our DM for Operations, you'll be one of 5 DMs, each of whom have a specific area of responsibility. These folks make sure the centre is safe to open in the morning and closed up securely at night, while ensuring that everything runs smoothly throughout the day. The Operations element of this role will involve performing routine maintenance, managing our routesetting supplies and processes, and assisting with larger maintenance and building projects. Also working as part of our Customer Experience team, this role involves one dedicated reception shift per week, allowing you to keep in touch with the people we're doing all of this for - our customers.

The Benefits...

The DM (Operations) role is one of two new positions we're adding to our team, giving you the chance to be part of the next stage of our development as a centre and as a company. You'll help craft the role and set the standard for present and future team members.

Our new shift pattern has allowed us to reduce our full-time working week from 36 to 33.75 hours, giving our hard-working team members more time to do what they love!

Want to spend that free time getting strong? Then take advantage of free climbing, yoga classes, and gym access at the centre, or make the most of Dorset's extra sunshine hours (more than anywhere else in the UK) and head down to one of the local crags!

Is personal development more your thing? You'll have a training budget that you can put towards a variety of courses so that you can add to your knowledge and skill set.

Or, if you really want to get stuck in with all aspects of working at a climbing wall, then why not pick up some extra hours as part of our coaching or routesetting teams?

The shift pattern for this role is based on a 3-week rotation, so while you'll work one weekend in three, you'll get 3-day weekends in the other two weeks, and still get two days off together during your "weekend week".

The salary for this role starts between £21,000 and £23,000, with the opportunity to earn more by taking on additional hours such as coaching shifts. Our full time members off staff also enjoy 33 days of holiday entitlement per year.

The right person for the job...

During their DM shifts, our DMs are expected to be comfortable with running the centre and leading the rest of the team on their shift. You'll enjoy variety in your working life, being able to switch effectively between "heads-down maintenance and organisation" mode and "friendly face of The Project" mode, sometimes during the same shift. You'll need to be practically-minded and equipped with creative problem-solving abilities, while being personable and probably a bit silly - after all, don't we all come here to play?

Closing Date: 19th April
Salary: £21,000-23,000

I normally don't get involved with posts like these but can't help noticing that

19,000 / 33.75 /52 = £10.82 per hour

Minimum wage from 1st April is £11.44

They might be open to an under 21 year old going for the job.

"The shift pattern for this role is based on a 3-week rotation, so while you'll work one weekend in three, you'll get 3-day weekends in the other two weeks, and still get two days off together during your "weekend week"."

would be interested to know how that works out as an exact shift pattern as would be great if my employer could do something similar

Thanks for picking this up Dan! We accidentally looked at the wrong column in our spreadsheet and put in the take home pay (post tax, pensions etc) instead of the gross figure. We also chose to put in a range rather than an exact figure but it turns out that we didn't really think about where the lower bound of the range should be because we had no intention of paying the lower part of the range. Lazy on our part, sorry! For clarity hourly rate will be above £12.35, likely to be closer to £12.50 though. Thanks again, Freddie.

I wish we could hide behind this excuse but it was just an honest mistake.

We generally don't use different pay rates based on age, it doesn't seem fair.
