German 'wunderkind' Alex Megos, all-round powerhouse Jorg Verhoeven and the UK's leading female boulderer, Shauna Coxsey head a line-up of world-class climbing superstars to compete in this year's 9th annual Climbing Works International Festival (CWIF). With 350 competitors from 20 countries getting ready to arrive in Sheffield, UK on the weekend of 7th and 8th March, this year's CWIF is shaping up to be the biggest yet.
The UK's only international climbing competition continues its unique format of being open to all climbers, no matter what their age or ability. Everyday climbers have the opportunity to put their strength, agility, technique and endurance to the test and climb alongside the professionals.
On Sunday 8th March, spectators can come along to the venue or tune in online www.thecwif.com to watch the cream of climbing talent as they battle it out in the semi-final and finals.
Current line-up:
From Germany - Alex Megos returning from a successful U.S. trip where he climbed one of the hardest boulders in the world, Lucid Dreaming (Font 8C+).
Jorg Verhoeven, from the Netherlands, is a previous World Cup lead champion and one of only 4 people to have free-climbed The Nose on El Cap.
Returning 2014 CWIF champion Tito Calyeron from France and previous World Bouldering Champion Melanie Sandoz.
From the UK - multiple CWIF, and defending champion Shauna Coxsey is looking to secure another title, while returning to Sheffield for the first time in a few years is Tyler Landman - a man with an incredibly impressive bouldering pedigree.
There will be live updates of the weekend's action across social media and online. Check out photos, videos and animated analysis of each round on instagram (@climbingworks) and put your questions to our top athletes via twitter (@climbingworks) where we will be hosting live Q+A's across both days.
On Sunday the semi-final and finals will be streamed at Noon and 1800 GMT from www.thecwif.com
The CWIF 2015 is sponsored by Scarpa, Berghaus, Adidas, DMM, Axis & Volx, and without their help The CWIF would be a lot less fun.
