I turned around to look down at the Pyg Track from the ridge at the top of snowdon and could see my shadow cast in the mist with a "magical" halo surrounding it. This is apparently known as a Brocken Spectre

What a fantastic Christmas present. Don't they reckon that, on average, you'd see one in a lifetime's hillwalking? (I've seen just one in over 40 years.) So congratulations!

Thanks Mike,
Yes, I was also lead to believe that this phenomenon is quite rare. I then found this site http://www.touchingthelight.co.uk/features/brocken.shtml which suggests ways to hunt them :)
I think i'm going to try and up the once in a lifetime average if i can :)
