OK, this is a wild guess.... Doe Library, Berkeley?
pneame - 20/Jan/10
No. It was widely used at the time - 1980ish... and still maybe.

Hmm... got to be the US (chalk bag, well trimmed beard, EBs with socks gives the time stamp... of very early 70s-mid 80s). The little drift of litter, the damp and the lichen has me bothered - more UK-ish....

Sheffield City Hall?

no i.d. but a great shot

It's UK and south of Sheffield... 1980.

Nottingham University by the lake
KTT - 21/Jan/10
No, not there either. Dave Garnett will know.

Is it a railway bridge?
Jamie Hageman - 21/Jan/10
No not a bridge - althoughthe steps do lead down under an arch which gives a rather good problem.

I don't categorically know the answer - this is only an educated guess...
... but I did once go there in search of some legendary bouldering when I was working in Birmingham c. 1985.
Birmingham University - wall facing Bristol Road with an arch in the middle?

Brian's right - it's a fantastic shot. Yes, he's doing his best to stay clean but that inner glow makes him impervious to the damp and the dirt and the garbage.
The gentle smile; the light in his eyes. (What did Sheridan Anderson say - "Sometimes there's a strange light in their eyes...")
This says everything that matters about the spirit of climbing, why we love it, why we will grow old loving it.

The Bournebrook Wall - fantastic venue and a unique guidesheet matrix type thing. I filled in a gap in it once..apparently

I've only just spotted this. Yes, young Ian Parsons; whatever happened to him? I think I still have some copies of the grid guide to every buttress and every combination of hand and foot levels somewhere. I must have spent months of my life on this wall.
