A good point. I only sat down having carefully studied the lichen on the fallen rocks and determined that none of them had fallen in the past 70 years. Also being aware that it was spring and that most rock is dislogded by winter freeze/thaw action I processed these two FACTs into my patented Risk algorithm and determined that I was safe ennuf. Thanks for reading the article and remember kids make your risks asymmetrical and stay lucky.

you have a really cool gallery of photos, but i cant help comment on this one! I appreciate that chris the tall was quoting another site, so this isnt aimed at him. How can anyone preach that wearing a helmet in this situation would have been any safer than not? Had ANY of those rocks around him fallen from 10 metres, let alone 1000, they would have killed him instantly, regardless of helmet wearage! Even a stone the size of a tennis ball would render a helmet useless at terminal velocity...no?

Hi Sam. I thought Chris was just pulling my leg but I have looked at the link and in fact he is quoting someone who is having a pop at me. The article I wrote was aimed at making more logical personal choices regarding risk. Whoever wrote that comment must be an advocate of wearing a helmet at all times - the base of Manure Pile Buttress is no danger zone.

You're an accident waiting to happen, apparently ! Well, at least according to http://www.mountain-clients.org.uk/ - scroll down to Chance, Risk and Accidents.
