Glad to bring back the memories Jon! - I hadn't looked at these pics for about 30 years, so it was pretty nostalgic. Eric was a great climbing partner, very steady. And he had a car! No idea what's happened to him.

It was pretty surreal when the weather cleared - sort of oh! wow! as the Midi emerged looking like some sort of ornament. We were actually quite lucky in some ways as our second day on the hill was going up for a route and it started to rain as we got round the corner on the Mer de Glace. We retreated in disgust from a bivvy next am, but others who'd gone up a day earlier had a much more exciting time.
