This photo shows the main mountain mass from the Kanchenjunga Valley at Ramtang, a shepherds shelter and windswept campsite halfway between Kambachen and Lhonak. The highest point seen from here is Kanbachen 7802m with spindrift indicating the summit of Kanchenjunga slightly to the left. The route taken in 1930, unsuccessfully, by Prof G Dyhrenfurth and Frank Smythe, amongst others, up the North-West Ridge can be clearly seen in the bottom left part of the mountain above the huge glacier. The elevation from here is truly awe inspiring, from where this photo is taken to top of Kanbachen is over 3200m, well over 11,000 feet. To the summit of Kanchenjunga, just out of sight, the elevation is 4216m or 13832 Feet.
