Didn't realise I had got Mercury until looking at the PC screen.
Strictly its not a "new moon" as it is the last of it waning, but .....

...and you have got a good bit of "Earth-shine" on the non-crescent area of the Moon.

Strictly speaking, it should be the "new moon with the old moon in its arms", which as you say is an evening occurrence, portending storms (cf. Sir Patrick Spens folk ballad). I was hoping to get this shot but local fog ruined it - what exposure did you use?
