The last edited by Eric Byne. He died shortly before its publication and it was finished by Paul Nunn. This was never the most popular climbing area of Derbyshire and many of the crags we're quite small and remote. But it boasted an eclectic mix of quarries and natural edges from the traditional crags like Laddow to the tottering Crowden Great Quarry. And gems like Tintwistle Knarr and Shining Clough.

Gems indeed. Was that Orestes on the back cover?

Hi Mick. Yes it was. The last time I climbed there was in 1967 and I don't think it had been done then. It's fascinating to see how many of the great and good of post war climbing visited the area and left their mark. And of course it was the stomping ground of lots of climbing clubs from Manchester and the north west.

still got it, does anybody still climb at Laddow?
