Mmmmmm times have changed. I remember Al Rouse telling me that if ever a woman climbed as well as him he,d give up?!

There were quite a few female members of the local club I climbed with in the sixties. Most guys were quite happy to take them climbing. However I can"t remember anyone who would have been happy to spend any length of time seconding them.
Today there are far more opportunities for climbing skills to be developed.

In an interesting article on why there were so few top class women climbers in the UK, Ian McNaught Davis mused about the the inherent male chauvinism of many of the climbing clubs of the day and also that men didn't want to climb with women except for the perks!! And when you actually looked at the 'perks' they were not really perks, because all they amounted to was either furtive sex in stinking sleeping bags or three hours standing shoulder to shoulder with sweaty male climbers watching darts.
Mmmmmm???
