On the 29th we had done the magnificent Via Graffer on the right hand shoulder of the Campanile Basso, and next day Ron insisted we went down to watch the match in the local cafe. We were the only people rooting for England. "England 4-2" I laconically noted in my climbing diary.
The sun rose again over the Dolomites but over English football?
