I was getting a bit fed up with The Climber by 1968, it seemed a bit old fashioned and out of date, Ken Wison and Les Ainsworth were producing more interesting mags. But with hindsight this was a nicely balanced edition. Litter had closed Den Lane while it was cleaned up. Climbing walls were just appearing. Walt Unsworth was recommending areas for a first visit to the Alps and there was a Photo Climb of Ashpit Traverse at Brownstones, even though the idea didn't really catch on in later editions.

And digital cameras were just coming in! Or had they been out sometime?

Walt continued the idea of the photo climb on into C&R and although sporadic, there were a couple of decent ones. I only remember Profit of Doom at Curbar and Back to the Egg (Kyloe?). The photos of Berzins on Profit were particularly inspiring to a youngster like me at the time.
