A very serious and tough climb in the 60's, first climbed by Don Whillians in 1956 with a peg/sling for aid [that says it all!]. The photo shows Ken on the crux standing in a sling. The loss of holds at this point a few years later resulted in the route been deemed not climbable! The routes description no longer appears in guide books although it still gets mentioned...Delphinus lives on.

Why can't I vote for this, Tony? Excellent, and just so 60s. That Boots 35mm compact certainly churned out some sharp images.

It so captures the moment. It's a Ken Wilson/John Cleare shot. Wouldn't have looked out of place in 'Rock Climbers in Action in Snowdonia'. No higher praise!

Ha, Mick. I was going to make exactly that comment about John Cleare but thought that Tony might not appreciate it! Shouldn't have worried in retrospect. So evocative of that era, isn't it? Funny how attitudes change, I remember doing one of those classic extremes on Craig yr Ogof, maybe Crucible or Jabberwocky (a decade later than this photo, I should add), and commenting to my partner how I thought a point of aid somehow added to the aura of a route!

Many thanks gentlemen, your comments are very much appreciated. I've moved my pic from the Historical section [I forgot about not allowing voting], so the option is now there!
The Boots camera had a great lens for such a cheap bit of kit...but, it was all manual with no metering, getting good results took lots of practice and even more luck! Cheers

In response to jon ...to have my photo compared to those in John Clears "Rock Climber's In Action In Snowdonia", is praise indeed...its one of my all time favourites books. Your comment is greatly appreciated, thank you.

It is so evocative of Mountain magazine in its early days.
