Me and Mrs Moore saw Poor Things at the cinema, thought it was brilliant, but had to compare it to that other film about a manufactured woman's voyage of self discovery.

As black (or white?) as Barbie is pink, Bella carves her own path through a male dominated world, spineless, psychos and bustards, every one of them. Barbie just gets bogged down in her own creation story and ends up getting upstaged by Ken.

Haven't read the book but would recommend Poor Things to anyone.

Except your granny

Or your parents.

Or your kids etc...

Michele gave Poor Things a 10/10 and Michele never gives films a 10. Added to my list of perfect films

I’d recommend the novel, arguably Alasdair Gray’s best work. Compared to the film it’s less glamorous, much more Scottish, and it asks harder questions about how men “construct” women.
I enjoyed the film but for me the lavish visuals were at odds with the narrative.
