I did a search, but all the info I managed to find appears to be about the direction gates should face on a quickdraw.
I've got a number of slingdraws made up and had planned to put a grommit/Petzl String on the rope end to stop the crab from rotating. However, after seeing a rather unnerving video highlighting the potential dangers of using Strings with slings, I've decided to ditch the idea.
That said, I've looked down on occasions and spotted that the rope crab on a sling has rotated 180 degrees (so that the gear end is now at the rope).
Is there a higher risk of failure of I took a fall onto a crab whilst it is "upside down"?
yeah, I had the dangers of crossloading drummed into me, I was just concerned whether there was any issues with the narrow wire loading the wide rope basket and the rope loading the much narrower gear end.
It's one of those questions I'm glad I asked though, since it was making me a tad nervous.
