The Grivel Tech Machine is a strong and technical axe for alpine, hard Scottish mixed or steep ice climbing. Lightweight and functional, it features the Grivel T-rated ice blade which is tapered down to 3mm at the final point to ensure an excellent ice penetration, even in brittle ice.
I have just received a Tech Machine as a replacement for another axe.
First impressions, solid, hefty swing, fantastic pick, hope to use it this Sunday? I do think they've missed a trick though, being unable to fit hammer on ice pick, only fatter mixed one! Surely for dense, cold ice, where more weight to settle pick is preferable, a thinner pick would displace less ice, than a fatter one!
These axes are an absolute joy to use on ice, though agree it would be very useful to be able to attach adze and hammer to them in ice pick mode. Looking forward to seeing how they perform on mixed!
