Seeking stimulants / stimulation?

I know like many people I drink coffee, but Ive also been enjoying nicotine recently. Now Im not addicted to either, I can go a week without either with little effect or yearning, but I do enjoy them so choose to have them. As with any drug or stimulus we acclimatise to them and they lose their 'hit' effect. The same can be said for endogenous stimulants I get from exercise, be it running, weights, climbing, cycling.

Why are some people like myself craving stimulation? What is it we are lacking that make us seek out something additional?

Dopamine, probably? I know that my brain certainly craves dopamine, perks of ADHD…

You may naturally have low dopamine levels. If you asked Gary Brecka he would suggest getting a methylation test to see if you have a genetic predisposition to being inefficient at converting amino acids into dopamine, and if so, supplement for it.
