Hi i have been climbing a few months now, done a fair bit or indoor, sport and some trad climbing. competent at building belays etc but wanting to look at multi pitch climbs starting out with a sport multi pitch possibly horseshoe quarry Derbyshire, any hints tip or useful sites to provide tips on setting up anchors on sport routes ?
In reply to Ahogg16: In "sport" climbing, as far as I am aware, the anchors are already set up: bolts and chains, to which you clip in. It's only in "trad" climbing that you have to set up your own anchors - which is just the same as "building a belay" in my book!
I don't think there are very many bolted multipitch climbs in the UK and especially not in the lower grades. I'd be surprised if there was anything worthwhile in that line at Horseshoe.
Men at Work in Horseshoe can be done as a 2 pitch climb, the climbing is not too tough and there is a perfect stance on top of a large block halfway up to prepare you belay.
Its on the slab section on the far wall directly opposite as you turn the corner into the quarry. Beware of loose rock from above.
In reply to Ahogg16: for sport multi pitch check out Goats r Us and Space tourist in Cheddar gorge 6b, 6b+ range. Only problem is you;ll have to wait till September when the seasonal restriction is lifted.
In reply to Ahogg16: As others have said, not so many multi pitch sport routes in the UK. Most if not all have bolted belays / ab points. There's a few on the Slate in North Wales....
