That seems slightly pointless, but should be good fun none the less

a great use for the slate quarries in Snowdonia

bring it on .....

In reply to Ian McNeill: It'a fun idea but might be a public liability insurance nightmare. I'd be interested to see what his insurers make of it.

I guess it's not the same as going climbing so if someone gets hurt because a bit of the iron work comes loose he might be liable for compensation.

But the guys done a terrific job of sorting out Honister mine over the years so more power to him.

A little early for April Fools wind-ups ?

OK I can see them putting up a bridge across a slate quarry, but surely they aren't planning a protected scramble all the way up Fleetwith Pike - it wouldn't last a week before it gets chopped
 Carolyn 21 Mar 2007
In reply to Chris the Tall:

I suspect it'd go from the mine, out across the face of Fleetwith Pike overlooking Honister Pass.

That'd be my guess too. I'd assume that's private land belonging to the mine, so chopping shouldn't come into it.

So what's the difference between Via Ferrata and Sports Climbing?

Besides the grade that is?
 Simon Caldwell 21 Mar 2007
In reply to Fredt:
They'll charge for access to the VF, if they tried the same for sports climbing then nobody would be interested...

Self belaying.

Yes and it's so reasonably priced to get in

Don't know the smiley that represents extreme sarcasm so you'll just have to read this.

On VF you pull on metal rungs etc. Climbing you try and pull on the (hopefully natural) holds

In reply to Fredt: looks up to see the attempted hook flying over his head

In reply to biscuit: I suppose Allerdale could have given him a subsidy to make it cheaper rather than wasting it in Ritsons Wharf ...donno the smily for two fingers I'm afraid.
