I'm am hoping to be working out in Southwest Germany during this winter and am trying to find out what there is in terms of ice climbing out there. Does anyone have any info on climbing around the area, such as conditions, guidebooks, walk-ins etc? The closer to SW Germany the better...

I recomend South Austris, a valley called Maltatal (Malta Valley). There is a nice guesthouse "Hubertus". You can find more info here: www.maltatal-alpin.at

I'm in Munich and go ice climbing in Bavaria & Austria. There's a lot to do, get the "Eisklettern in Tirol" guide. Also the Eiskalt guide for Salzburger Land (for Gasteiner Tal especially). Not been to MaltaTal but have also heard very good reports. The Dolomites also have good ice routes.
