Happy New Year to you all!

Due to popular demand, I've compiled a list of the top 100 posters for the whole of 2007.

http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/info/top100.html

Congratulations to CJD for her return to the No.1 spot after a narrow defeat last year. sutty and Al Evans battled it out for the silver & bronze, with Al a nose ahead, and an improvement from his number 3 placing last year. Will there be another change at the top of the leaderboard in 2008?

See http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?t=219480 for last year's discussion.

Blimey, well done CJD

A lead of 2105 over second place.

I got 2637 in total in 24th, which is pretty bad.

But this post puts me ahead of her in 2008 (so far)

People in the top one hundred list are both winners, and losers, aren't they?

Happy New Year.

The really scary bit is that some "real people" are on that list, more than once!

It works out about 6 posts per hour or 1 every 10 minutes; assuming a 48 working-week year, 5 day/8 hour weeks.

All bow to the Queen of UKC!

bugger. can't believe i'm on it. At least i'm a tail-ender!

Mystery Toad + Regis von Goatlips = 8714 postings (2nd place)!

You're forgetting all the posts in The Chat Room that disappear after no posts in the thread for 48 hours, too. 'Cos they don't count...

Thank goodness. The shock of making the top 40 posters back in February has proved enough to keep me away from this place enough to not be on there!

I'm not certain, but I think you are wrong, for a start I think Nick's system will identify the source and ascribe to one or other of the posters names, e.g. Nevis the Cat is John Rushby, but all the posts in this list are ascribed to John's main name. Nevis does not even feature.
As Regis von Goatlips was banned I doubt if they would have carried on letting MT post if they were one and the same.

AH-HA! my identity revealed!

On the other hand, Marie and Bingly Bong are one and the same person, and she's in the list under both names at 33(Marie) and 72(Bingly Bong)

In reply to Chris Tan Ver. L - On the Bog: 6 posts an hour, every hour, for a whole year? i'm sure i'm not the only person who sees this as not so much a 'badge of honour', than a big neon sign that says 'internet geek with no life'. volume doesn't always equal quality!

Could be that one is from a work address and one from home. In which case any IP filtering is unlikely to align the two.

In reply to Mystery Toad:

And you would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

yeah "ooops".
over 10,000 posts. lol
....i don't feel so guilty now.
 CJD 01 Jan 2008
In reply to Mystery Toad:

putting it in perspective (not that it makes any difference) - iot's driven lots of posts from other people, and it's been beneficial for my photography, and has got me some climbing information, and helped some others out. I just type fast, that's all.
 CJD 01 Jan 2008
In reply to CJD:

another thught, having had a rummage through the forum, is that i guess I'm lucky enough that, both through UKC (<waves to Control freak>) and otherwise, I've been able to spend new year's eve away from my computer...

Not to mention the times when he dons his "Pink Basque and Sussies" persona and post as Wanda the Willing

But what you really meant to say was "internet geek with no life and does mental arithmetic"

In reply to Nick Smith - UKC:

Hmm I'm in at 93...probably wouldn't have been it at all if it weren't for hugely increased postings recently!
In reply to Franco cookson: i like how all the top posters are just getting the chance for more posts on this thread.
In reply to Nick Smith - UKC: I've just updated the Top 100 page to include total number of words posted, and the average number of words per post, so you can compare someone who posts lots of short messages, to someone who posts fewer, longer messages.

CJD managed to type an impressive 494,838 words* last year (!)

Refresh your browser cache if you can't see the updated page. (Ctrl+reload or Shift+reload)

(*For statistical purposes, we treat the average word length as 5 letters+a space - see wikipedia for more details about average word length in English texts).

Yeah! hey, i didn't do too bad for a yank with crap for WPM.
now if i could only get this krazy grammar thing sorted.
 tommyzero 01 Jan 2008
In reply to Nick Smith - UKC:

(Interesting) things about these results (?).

Given that Mystery Toad only joined 'recently' hasn't he done (er???) well?
At least one old schooler up there in the medal winners.
No medal placing for a yank! (C'mon we got to gloat when we can).

Respect due to CJD.

In reply to CJD:

Ulysses has a word count of just 270,000.
Personally I think you should be on a wage.

Nick, since you're obviously at a loose end, could we have a calculation of average words per post by poster, I've got a little sweep going offline.
And in the interest of me going down the list, could you reorder it by word count?
 chris wyatt 01 Jan 2008
In reply to Nick Smith - UKC:

10,000 / 365 = 27 posts per day.

Blimey CJD I reckon you use up about an hour a day on UKC. Do you watch telly or do anything else not productive or is this is your only vice
Chris Tan Ver. L - On the Bog 01 Jan 2008
In reply to Nick Smith - UKC:

And only 700+ days left before we get the stats for the decade.

To CJD: Go girl go!
Rosie A 01 Jan 2008
In reply to Nick Smith - UKC:

Ah I see, you've already done it, and .... the winner of word per post count, narrowly pipping Rob Naylor at the post, is our very own Coel Hellier!
Ironic, given that he only ever says 'uh-huh'!
In reply to CJD:
> *now* who has too much time on his hands!

grin. Well, *I'm* not on the top 100 list, am I now? ;P
Jonno 01 Jan 2008
In reply to Nick Smith - UKC:

Perhaps 'Top Posters of 2007' should be subtitled 'Those who need to get a life in 2008!'.......me included.

Hey... that's first post of the year. Should go some way to ratcheting up my pathetic 60th placing.

Mind you. At the end of the day it's about quality not quantity I suppose !
 CJD 01 Jan 2008
In reply to Jonno:

lol!

but I *do* have a life! I have other interests, and I climb (unlike quite a few posters on here!) and I have lots of friends. I just don't have TV, and I'm an inveterate chatterer...
 CJD 01 Jan 2008
In reply to chris wyatt:

when you put it like that... I don't actually have any other vices, no. I don't drink much, don't smoke, I exercise regularly, I talk to my friends, etc etc... I just don't have TV and I have the attention span of a gnat.
 ebygomm 01 Jan 2008
In reply to CJD:

People who don't understand how it's possible to make that many posts

a) can't touch type

and

b) can't multitask

I've seen how fast CJD can touch type whilst simultaneously dealing with a CF crisis and clutching a glass of Shiraz
Skills that some of us can only dream of...

I strongly suspect that 60 minutes of writing on here is much more social than an hour of gawping at cr*p tv each day.
 gingerdave13 02 Jan 2008
In reply to Nick Smith - UKC: errrr oh burger.. i 'placed' 95th..

carp but i'm not sure whether I should be pleased or not... hmmm

still new job in a couple of weeks might be putting a curtail on my activities here this year..

you can say that twice.
....and i guess you sorta just did.

In reply to Nick Smith - UKC:

61. No idea if that's higher or lower than last year, as I didn't note the position on last year's thread. Sounds about right though.

Damn. Missed out on the 'World's Ten Sexiest Men' (Woman's Weekly - Aus) and now the top 100 in UKC....

..........lol, uh
i'm really tempted to run with this one
but as i'm crap at footie*
i don't wanna get rupee (sp?) tackled by a runaway truck. lol
