Arrg - I've just managed to scratch my sunglasses. Are they stuffed?
 chris_s 22 May 2008
In reply to brothersoulshine:

opticians can sometimes get rid of scratching - depends on the coating and how deep the scratch is.
brothersoulshine 22 May 2008
In reply to chris_s:

That's worth at least a go. I really like these glasses. Well, I did anyway.
In reply to brothersoulshine:

I'm sure I remember seeing something about a cunning polymer that you wipe on to small scratches like this, and it fills them.

Or maybe I was dreaming. Google will help, I'm sure...

In reply to brothersoulshine:

What sort are they - lens type, coatings etc?
My mate is an opthalmic something-or-other so I'll ask him if anything can be done if you'd like?
brothersoulshine 22 May 2008
In reply to TN:

They're some oakley ones. The lenses are really dark.

Sorry, that's about as specific as I can get!

In reply to brothersoulshine:

The stuff for aircraft windows might work if they are acrylic but such a range of polymers are used for these days its difficult to know.

In reply to brothersoulshine: If repair doesn't work, the lenses themselves will be replaceable. You could even try a new tint. I got a pair of Rudy Project lenses replaced - much cheaper than a new set.

In reply to brothersoulshine:

Don't buy expensive ones, you'll lose/bust them. Tinted safety glasses are great for ice/mountain use....

In reply to brothersoulshine:

Oakley lenses are replaceable, having done this before myself!! Theyre pretty good with customer service (well, from my experience) too.
 Anni 23 May 2008
In reply to Removed User:

Disagree with that, as Ive paid more money for them I look after them better...

I can't see how they'd get them in :-S

Same as a woman having a baby, push hard and skill.

Flexing them just the right amount is possibly the way they do it, I have done it with other cheaper glasses where they pop out.

In reply to brothersoulshine:

Muz has some old oakley Tens and I don't think the lens is removable on those either. They're scratched to f*** now but they have served him very well.

I'll speak to my mate about it at the weekend, see if he can suggest anything. Will you mail me a photo of them so I can show him what you're dealing with?

In reply to TN:

Thanks. They're oakley monster pup and look exactly like this (only with a scratch on one lens):

Ouch.
I'll let you know what Graeme says.

In reply to brothersoulshine:

Do you need a pair? I got one replacement Rayban lens dircet from Bausch & Lomb
OP Anonymous 24 May 2008
In reply to brothersoulshine:

You could try polishing the scratches out with brasso. That tends to work with iPods and the like. Google it.
 TN 24 May 2008
In reply to TN:

Spoke to him. He says if they are the oakley lenses (which I guess they are) there's very little he can do with scratches. He also said he wouldn't be able to get you a replacement any cheaper than you or I would be able to. Unlucky... Soz. Always worth asking though, I guess...
brothersoulshine 24 May 2008
In reply to TN:

Thanks for asking anyway.
