Ably assisted by the unique JCT, John Dunne will be live and answering your questions here on Rocktalk on Thursday evening from about 6.30pm. It promises to be the event of the, well, month for sure, and who knows? If you pose interesting enough questions, we'll have to see where it goes.

Put your questions below, so he has some to work on. And if you want reminding of the Johnny Dawes interview from last month, that is here.

Charles

John, please would you settle a long standing argument for me. I saw you climb Napes Needle in May 98, my girlfriend claims you were wearing trainers, but I saw you remove your rockshoes at the bottom and change into your trainers. Please confirm that you did wear rockshoes to climb it.

In reply to Charles- woooaahh! Charlie baby, i thought i was going to put this ad up! John rang me last night and unfortunately he's got to pop off to Arran for a photo shoot tomorrow so he wont be appearing then, but he will be before very long. i'll put an advert up the day before. i guess if people still want to post questions they can but the way it went with Johnny there were so many questions being fired at him simultaneously he didnt get a chance to reply to the previously posed questions on Jonathan T's thread.
jude calvert-toulmin 18 Jul 2001
i like being called unique though Charles and the link to the Johnny interview is a top idea!
jude calvert-toulmin 18 Jul 2001
In reply to charles arthur: actually, having given this a bit of thought, let's use this opportunity to post questions now and over the next few days and then i can let john read them whilst he is lying in the hammock in our garden during a long lazy summer's afternoon before the interview, being fed grapes by me in my cave-girl's outfit.

i think johnny would have appreciated the chance to read through a lot of questions first, which he didnt get, so get posting those questions for the rock-solid hip yorkshireman who is so cool because he doesnt even bother with the in crowd. now that's cool, baby, that's cool.

Questions for John Dunne:
1> Do you still enjoy climbing?
2> Does the fact that you now climb at the behest of others reduce the pleasure you get from climbing?
3> What (apart from climbing) do you do to unwind? What do you do for fun?
4> Most important this - what is Jude like in the flesh (so to speak)? I have never met her. Does she actually exist or is she merely a marketing construct? Is Jude in fact the Lara Croft of climbing?

What is your favourite route in the UK, the one you would go back to do just for the shere pleasure & not the hard climbing?

Why on earth do/did Adidas sponsor a climber?

I have a photo of myself on Tufted crack, in the bottom right hand corner is your self, did you delibratley pose on that photo so you could be seen with me?

In reply to Andy Robinson:

I look up at "New Statesman" from my garden with a bottle of beer in one hand and think "How did he do that?". My question is, "Just how did you do that? Bloody awesome if you ask me. And weren't you scared? I just shit my pants looking at it especially when it gets all dark and moody up on t'Moor".

In reply to jude calvert-toulmin: this question is for you jude.
you know johnny dawes and john dunne and they both hang round your house. do they ever bump into each other and do you flip from side to side when your with one or the other.
jude calvert-toulmin 19 Jul 2001
In reply to dan evans: now dont be cheeky son, thats enough of that malarkey! (flip from side to side? lol, you want to stop watching those crap german porn films and get yourself some classy ones luv, you need educating!)

i've never met john dunne, ive only spoken to him on the phone twice, but i've always intuitively figured that he was "the man" and am looking forward to meeting him very much.

johnny's been a friend of the family for years.

In reply to jude calvert-toulmin: i didn't mean like sleeping with them. and i thought you knew john sorry my mistake,. i want to know what you think about the dissagrement between them. do you think john climbed parthian shot or do you think like johnny and think NO WAY!!
And what do i need educating about. you've dissliked me since that is climbing art thing and me telling you design is not art.

dan
jude calvert-toulmin 20 Jul 2001
In reply to dan evans: i dont dislike you dan. of course i dont. theres only one named person on rocktalk i think is a complete twat and he knows who he is and it certainly isnt you.

ive got no idea whether john climbed parthian shot or not. he says he did, thats all that matters. he's a brilliant climber, im not about to doubt anything he says. as ive said on the "take a look at this" thread, i dont agree with what my friends say just because they're my friends, i wouldnt be being true to myself otherwise.

as to their disagreement, that's their business, not mine. ive got enough shit in my own life without getting involved in other peoples'.
dan evans 20 Jul 2001
In reply to jude calvert-toulmin: what kind of shit do you have in your life jude you make a living from doing the things you love you get to go climbing youve got kids you seem to have alot to make you very happy.

sorry, you don't have to tell

jude calvert-toulmin 21 Jul 2001
In reply to dan evans: re: "you make a living from doing the things you love"

ah, Dan, the misconceptions. i dont make a living from doing the things i love.....yet. at the moment it is pocket money only. i am still at the skint artist stage i'm afraid. hopefully things will change when a) the children are a bit older and i have more time for work, and b) when i stop pratting around wasting my time socialising in here, although that doesnt take up too much time really.

i do get to go climbing, but im not that bothered about climbing. and yup, ive got a lovely husband and three lovely children, thats the most important thing, so i shouldnt grumble, im lucky in that respect.
everyone has shit in their lives though dont they?
dan evans 21 Jul 2001
In reply to jude calvert-toulmin: i too have shit in my life, sometimes twice a day, and always just as i arrive at the crag.

i'd like to see some of your mosiac work as i have done a bit myself. and other stuff that you do, how can i get to see it.
jude calvert-toulmin 21 Jul 2001
In reply to dan evans: hi dan, i checked out your website and the links to "my aims" and your work arent working, well on my browser anyway, thought you might like to know.

im in the middle of having a web site set up for me by this new sheff company, im their guinee pig which is fine by me cause i get to have flash in it he he. there'll be all my mosaics on there (im renovating a fountain now in the garden to be photographed, this is my tea break) plus song lyrics, painted lead windows, writing, photography, hats, interior design, everything ive ever done really. except the controversial artistic projects that might embarrass my family. which is the best stuff really. never mind

however you're more than welcome to pop round my house and i'll give you a guided tour. do you live in sheff? just email me.

was i horrible to you on the is climbing art thread? im a dragon sometimes, just take me with a pinch of salt, i probably had pmt. i think i've upset at least one buddy with my pmt rants this week girls eh?

anyway back to the subject of this thread, the john dunne interview will be very very soon but charles isnt going to advertise it until we definately know that john can make it. he's a busy, mysterious and elusive character

not charles.

well actually, he is too.

next up is going to be big ron if i can nab him at the plantation and charm my way round him

oh and btw i had a complete lark gassing with andy kirkpatrick in Outside the other day, whilst rained off bouldering with a rocktalk chum. i wanted to put andy k on rocktalk live last thursday as compensation for anyone who had logged in, but andy was busy. however andy k, although not a gritstone god, is one of the funniest and most entertaining reasonably well-known climbers i have ever met. would anyone want him to come on and do a rocktalk live in between persuading ron to do it? what do you think?
dan evans 21 Jul 2001
In reply to jude calvert-toulmin: my friend set up the web site for me but he never finished it. he will soon i hope. i live in france so i won't be popping round tommorow.
