Ive noticed a sharp deterioration in the interest factor of the winter climbing gallery. UKC should re-name it 'Same old Rjukan crap Gallery'. Where has Pete Macpherson disappeared to with his trusty camera?

In reply to Andy Nisbet: fantastic Andy, his photos truely highlight what scottish winter is all about. Ever thought of scanning some of your slide collection and posting on here? Hope they complete the route ok
In reply to Andy Nisbet:

In reply to Stuart the postie: good luck to them- absolutely fantastic route. Will be a horrid wade up the back, but they might get a bumslide descent
OP Erik B 06 Mar 2009

Dreadful isn't it? - http://www.ukclimbing.com/photos/?category=2&nstart=0&sort=v

... and so dominated by Rjukan shots!

In reply to Alan James - UKC: in fairness most of the best pictures are a couple of years old. The best are still properly awesome, though. Reminds me why I don't winter climb, but constantly dream of it.
In reply to toad:

That's true, but scroll down a bit and you'll find quite few stunners from 2009.

In reply to Andy Nisbet: superb!!! young Tony was full of praise for this route of yours. why on earth is The Secret more famous?!! BS&FT must be one of the world classics. Do you still think Snoopy was your best?
OP Erik B 07 Mar 2009
In reply to Andy Nisbet: by the way, Dave made that mingin ramp on Snoopy look like a grade IV, and it clearly isnt as I found out!! awesome lead
 Andy Nisbet 07 Mar 2009
In reply to Erik B:

I've good memories of them both. BS & FT is always in nick (doesn't need ice) which is a plus point. By the way, Ed was saying that one of the small hooks on pitch 2 is getting worn and his axes popped off it (seconding)

Perhaps Dave had new picks on his axes, though his are usually blunter than mine, which takes some doing

In reply to Andy Nisbet:

I take my hat of to you Andy and Martin, Blood sweat and frozen tears is utterly magnificent! The slog up the south side was purgatory to say the least with waist deep snow at times (worse than wednesday) We were exausted by the time we started the route!. The top pitch had a fair bit of ice and was just magic! We even got home the same day as we left this time!!

In reply to ErikB, I'll put some pictures up soon, of some Rjukan ice that is!

Cheers,

Pete

In reply to petemacpherson: Looking forward to seeing your photos, they are always ace! Hope you and Ed enjoyed the plough up there

In reply to petemacpherson: Nice work - did you get a bumslide? A desert island quality (personal top 5) route- though the walk-in could be improved....

In reply to Erik B: Quality joke eric!

Sorry for the ignorance.... what is / where is Snoopy?

In reply to vscott: Aye we got a bum slide most of way, couldn't see a thing because of the rain/sleet but were fairly confident we were going to miss the crags. I'm totally blown away by the quality of the climbing on BS and FT. From the first moves on pitch one to the very last moves on pitch 3 the climbing is fantastic with perfect conditions.

That was the 4th time i've walked over the top this season it's always hellish but yesterday just took the piss with waist deep snow at times.

A big ramp line on the north-east side of Mainreachan Buttress, the only line of weakness on an awesome face (there's a few lines left which aren't weak, place of the future)
