What´s the best way to keep feet warm whilst rock climbing?

Socks under climbing shoes (less space for blood to circulate?)

or

Long socks with toes and heels cut off OVER climbing shoes (is this just a pain?)

Any thoughts?

In reply to chickenpox: deep heat and leg warmers, yes I do wear leg warmer in the winter

In reply to Henry Loveless: Cognac.
How much cognac should I put on my feet?

For that matter, how much deep heat should I drink?

In reply to Henry Loveless: rub them both in your eyes and you will forget about how cold your feet are.

Nonsense. In severe cases of mountain lasitude, there is no substitute for champagne.

In reply to Henry Loveless: climbing shoes so tight you can't feel your feet anyway!

Engulf them in flames. That should do the trick.
In reply to Jamie Bankhead:

I might climb quicker too. I think I saw a similar rugby forfeit once.

Big pair of (old) walking socks in your pocket. Put them over rock shoes on the belay.

In reply to Henry Loveless:
Socks OVER climbing shoes is useful in font for stopping the dreaded sand. Just remember to take the socks off before you start up a problem. neat.

In reply to Henry Loveless: In the days of Whymper and Leslie Stephen, they used to drink something called Bouvier - I think it was like schnapps. I did once take a hip flask of Glen Morangie up Point 5 gully, but forgot all about it until we were on the way down. Maybe a platypus system would be best.

I once had to take my socks off and put them on over my boots to do a verglassed slab in the Lakes.
If its good enough for the people in the pictures attatched its good enough for me.

In reply to Henry Loveless: I usually stick my shoes inside my jacket a minute or two beofre i set off on the climb and wear a thin pair of socks on my feet. that usually does the trick for me =]

In reply to Al Evans:

Al, if I know it's going to be verglassed, I take my nailed boots. Always think ahead.

In reply to Henry Loveless: I made some Down Leg Warmers/ Booties (basically just cutting the toe of a pair of down booties, they are great, keep your feet warm and you can slide them down to cover your whole foot when not climbing.
