planning a route in to Knoydart from Glen Shiel early next year and was hoping to hit the narrow window between the heavy snow having melted and the midges turning up in force. The route starts out over the Forcan Ridge and, whilst I don't mind a bit of the white stuff hanging around, I was hoping to be able to leave ropes and spikey stuff in the car.

When is best to plan for? Late April? Early May?

thanks in advance

Yes, should be fine then. In the worst case, you can skirt the ridge on the south side and gain the summit of the Saddle via Bealach Coire Mhalagain.

Although you can get isolated dumps of snow, you would be unlucky to have your progress impeded by it at any time of April in this area; the mountains are coastal and not massively high.

that's all good info, thanks guys. It would be a pity to have to skirt the ridge as that's one of the highlights. End April it is then
