do they get to keep the trophy...?

Brazil got to keep the Jules Rimet trophy in 1970 after winning it for the third time

with Germany currently on 2 wins of this trophy, is there a similar arrangement for the current one...?

(and, in 1974 and 1990 they were west germany, will that make any difference...?)

It would seem not, they only get to keep a replica:

That was the old one.

Interesting fact, FIFA claim that the world cup (new one) is made of solid gold. A scientist has calculated that if this was true you wouldn't be able to pick it up.

Hmm I wonder which is correct? I personally go with the boffin as he looks way to clever, and Septic Bladder is beyond useless, so probably hasn't got a clue what he's talking about!

In reply to Ben Callard:

from the link...

"This new trophy is not awarded to the winning nation permanently. World Cup winners retain the trophy until the next tournament and are awarded a gold-plated replica rather than the solid gold original."

that seems to refer to teams winning it in general, and doesnt specifically mention the case of a team winning it a set number of times...

i agree it sounds unlikely though. shame, i think it is a good idea. and if germany didnt win this time, brazil, argentina and italy are all on two wins too, so one of them would be likely to get it sometime soon...

i didnt realise the Jules Rimet was stolen and never recovered... "Jules Rimet's still gleaming"... yes, on some brazilian crime boss's cufflinks by the sound of it...

In reply to no_more_scotch_eggs: If I was them, I'd just take it. Can you imagine Blatter trying to take it off them

In reply to Hoppo:
Being 'solid gold' doesn't as far as I'm aware mean it is actually solid, simply that it isn't plated onto something else. So it could be a solid gold hollow sculpture.

They get to keep the replica that was made for Argentina, in case maradona won the cup again:
