Hi,

My husband and I recently applied for a life insurance policy, only to find we were expected to pay premium of £150 in addition to monthly repayments because of being climbers/mountaineers. This seems pretty unfair to us! I was wondering if anyone had come across any 'climber friendly' life insurance policies where you're not expected to pay extra premiums for being a (responsible!) climber. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,
Clare

The only one I know of is Summit Financial services. I don't have much experience in this arena, but I was left very happy with their services.

Just out of interest, which company did you apply to?

I've heard good things about Summit Financial Services, too. Not sure what their base rate is like, however but I believe they often offer non-loaded policies. Definitely worth approaching them via the BMC.

A bancassurer or main-stream company has no real interest or understanding of climbing / mountaineering risks and will typically go for the "book rating".
