How do you do this at 5am in the morning? I booked a train to London from Sheffield early for the coming Monday and presumed the peak district trains run at that time too but no...

I have screwed myself over?

possibly. i think busses start at about 7am. google south yorkshire transport for more timetables.

You could probably pre-arrange a taxi. Sickleholme taxis worth a try - there are other operators as well.

I leave Hope at 8-8.15am - I'm guessing that's way too late for you.
